“WE'VE LEARNED A LOT OVER THE PAST SIX YEARS AND OWE IT ALL TO STATEWIDE LAUNDRY EQUIPMENT, SPEED QUEEN®, RUSTY PARKS AND JIM ROGERS. THEIR SUPPORT WAS INSTRUMENTAL TO OUR SUCCESS."- TERRY PYLE

When Terry and Jeff closed their business in 2010, they were looking for something new. The Pyles never dreamed about opening a laundry until researching new business opportunities online. They were both too young to retire so they started researching the best businesses to open and came across three.

Car Wash: They liked the car wash business but they noticed that the next location was too close by and it was always a newer car wash. They also realized that car washers present a number of challenges not found in laundromat ownership, including:

  • Complex equipment may require servicing or cause lengthy downtime
  • Variables like time of week, season and weather that affect profitability
  • Hands-on management

Self-Storage: With the mini storage business, they realized people could leave their stuff inside and never come back to retrieve it. Although the startup costs were about the same, the Pyles realized there is more risk to consider when investing in self- storage that you typically will not face with a laundromat investment, including:

  • The need for a large amount of real estate
  • Complicated bookkeeping
  • Strict government regulations

Laundromat: With the laundromat business, they realized that it’s recession- resistant. Because clean clothes are a necessity, laundromat success is not tied to fluctuations in the economy. They also loved the idea of a laundromat because it’s a cash business, has low labor costs and low government interference. For the Pyles it was a win- win situation.

After doing their due diligence they decided to contact Statewide Laundry Equipment. They visited a beautiful new laundry with Rusty Parks, Statewide Orlando Consultant, that he was working on and decided to move forward with their laundry investment. Statewide helped them secure a location, lease, permit, installation of all equipment and hiring and training of all employees. The Pyles worked with Rusty as well as Jim Rogers, Statewide Laundry Equipment Vice President.

The Pyles enjoy being a multi store owner because they make double the income, they have double the amount of employees watching the store and they can purchasing items for their laundry in bulk. Being in a business before has helped them be successful today. They mention one key factor to their success if managing their employees.

Because Statewide Laundry Equipment has been a major support system for the Pyles over the years, they have remained loyal Speed Queen® and Statewide Customers.

"One thing we love about this business is we don’t have to be there every second of the day. Four months of the year we travel and our stores are run remotely by ESD Payment Systems and Spyderwash. We get daily reports to show our store activities and we are also able to see foot traffic from our store with an app on our phone," mentions Terry Pyle.
